The Magic Switch

Do you ever watch those shows on TV like the biggest loser where someone miraculously loses 200 pounds? Did you read the book Four Hour Work Week and learn how to make millions while only working well… four hours a week and traveling the world the rest of the time? Or how about that website where the stay at home mom made $124,397 in six weeks rehabbing houses without ever picking up a hammer? Or of course my favorite… the easy button. Don’t you wish you had an easy button that would do basically anything you wanted?

Of course you do. Come on, admit it. We all want an easy button. We all want a magic switch that will just get things done for us. I mean, why not right? If someone can lose 200 pounds in a year, then you can certainly lose 20 pounds in a year right? I mean all you got to do is get on TV and then miracles happen.

Silly rabbit. Tricks are for kids. And so are magic switches and easy buttons. Truth be told if you want to see results, you’ve got to put in some good old fashioned effort into it. What those books and shows don’t tell you is how hard things can get sometimes. What they don’t show you is all the effort that goes into getting something done. And most importantly, what they don’t teach you are the right mindset that it takes to make things happen.

We’ve all been to the motivational events, the weekend bootcamps and seminars, or even the inspirational webinar or audio programs. Tony Robbins has made a living out of inspiring people through his events. Heck, even listening to Joel Olsteen gets your blood pumping and lifts the spirits. That’s all fine and dandy while we’re at the events. Then when we get home, reality sets in. All our worries, challenges, fears, and insecurities come crashing in – and after a year’s time, we’ve gained 5 pounds instead of losing 20 pounds.

So where’s that magic switch? That easy button to get things done for us? Where’s the genie in a bottle to grant us our wish? If you really want to know, then let me tell you. It’s right where it’s always been – inside of you. Within you is the power to accomplish anything you put forth in your mind. Napoleon Hill, author of the book Think and Grow Rich once said, “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”

Going one step further,

In his book, Discover the Power Within Yourself, Eric Butterworth talks about an old Hindu legend which says that:

“There was a time when all men were gods, but they so abused their divinity that Brahma, the chief god, decided to take it away from men and hide it where they would never again find it. Where to hide it became the big question.

When the lesser gods were called in council to consider this question, they said, ‘We will bury man’s divinity deep in the earth.’ But Brahma said, ‘No that will not do, for man will dig deep down in the earth and find it.’ Then they said, ‘Well, we will sink his divinity into the deepest ocean.’ but again Brahma replied, ‘No, not there, for man will learn to dive into the deepest waters, will search out the ocean bed, and will find it.’

Then the lesser gods said, ‘We will take it to the top of the highest mountain and there hide it.’ But again Brahma replied, ‘No, for man will eventually climb every high mountain on earth. He will be sure some day to find it and take it up again for himself.’ Then the lesser gods gave up and concluded, ‘We do not know where to hide it, for it seems there is no place on earth or in the sea that man will not eventually reach.’

Then Brahma said, ‘Here is what we will do with man’s divinity. We will hide it deep down in man himself, for he will never think to look for it there.’ Ever since then, the legend concludes, man has been going up and down the earth, climbing, digging, diving, exploring, searching for something that is already in himself.”

Bottom line is that there is n

o magic switch, no easy button, no genie in a bottle. If you want to achieve something and attain success, then you’ve got to work at it. You’ve got to put in some effort and do what needs to be done. And most importantly, you have to believe that you can achieve whatever it is you are working for.

Find that passion within you. Find that desire to accomplish. Then go out and work your behind off and get it done. Believe in yourself and your abilities and you’ll be able to create your own magic.
