Getting To Know You… Getting to know all about you…

What is success?

Is it making a lot of money?

Is it getting that prized promotion?

Winning the race?

Beating the competition?

How about getting a hot date, finding a significant other, having children?

Really, what is success?

And more importantly, how do YOU achieve success?

Pretty deep questions huh?

Hey, if you could bottle up success and sell it, chances are you’d be a multi-billionaire!

Of course, you’d have to figure out what success was first, so let’s look at this a bit.

In its various forms, success is of course different for every person depending on wants, desires, and needs. To an athlete, success could mean winning Olympic gold or just getting an Olympic medal for others. To a parent, success could mean raising a child with good morals and values and for others, it means getting their kid to win that dance competition – ever see Dance Moms – crazy show. To a surgeon, success could mean saving a life, performing the operation perfectly, or just getting through the day.

Success has as many meanings as there are stars. And that’s a lot!

There’s one commonality about success though. It’s that success is determined by each and every person for themselves. Anyone who determines their successes by someone else’s standards will always feel like something’s missing.

Only you can determine what success means for you.

Now if you read the dictionary, it defines success as “that certain measure or degree of achievement or accomplishment or as a desirable and favorable outcome”.

What the heck is a favorable outcome? Gold medal? Silver medal? Bronze Medal? Making it to the Olympics? As I said, it’s different for every person.

So, to fully understand success, the first thing you have to do is to understand yourself.

I know, I know. This could be a painful, boring process – d’oh! Or hey, it could be a fantastic, exciting process depending on how you look at it… or look at yourself.

In my Business Bionics course, I spend an entire week (which is probably a little too little) and walk you through this entire process of self-discovery.

In the interest of time, I’ll just share with you a few things you need to ask yourself in order to start the process of self-discovery.

Of course it wouldn’t do you any good to answer those questions until you understand something first.

See… see what I did. Got you all excited and ready to find out what those questions are and then redirected you. Pretty good huh? If you’re into marketing, take note. Redirection is a useful tool. Well… marketing or a magician.

Regardless, this is an important thing to understand, so regardless of your profession, take note.

To fully understand yourself and answer the questions I’m about to share with you fully and completely, you must understand and accept that nothing happens by coincidence, that nothing happens by chance.

Now this does not mean that your fate is set and that you have no control over your life.

Oh contraire my friend. It means the exact opposite.

It means that nothing is predestined and that you have the power to control everything in your life.

You have the power to control your successes and failures. And most importantly, you are exactly where you’re supposed to be – because you created it.

Yes, I know. Hard to believe.

And you may or may not believe me.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a full weekend to really go into the details and understand that it’s true.

You control your world.

You control your reality.

And you are exactly where you led yourself.

There’s a simple saying that goes, “You made your bed, now sleep in it.”

What the saying doesn’t tell you is that you can also unmake your bed and remake it in a different way.

In other words, if you don’t like where you’re at in life, then yes, you can change it.

You can start achieving successes on purpose instead of letting life happen around you.

If you can understand and embrace this concept, then as you go and answer the questions I’m about to share, then you can fully grasp your situation and more importantly, what you need to do in order to change it.

Let me say it again… YOU Control your destiny.

You always have and you always will.

Understanding this concept will allow you to understand your past and more importantly, move past it and into the future.

You see, sometimes people don’t like their past.

They get stuck in it.

So stuck that they can’t move forward… or more directly, they don’t know how to move forward.

It’s like watching rerun TV where there’s only one channel and it keeps playing the same thing over and over. They’re stuck in an endless loop, unable to get off of the ugly roller coaster. They want to throw up and know that if they do, it’ll just blow back right into their face.

O.k. That was kinda gross. O.k. really gross. And maybe too graphic.

I take it back.

Whoops. Can’t really do that can I?

It’s like me saying, “Don’t think of pink elephants.”

Can’t stop you from thinking of pink elephants huh? Not even if I tell you not to like I just did.

Can you see how people get stuck in their loops?

They start thinking of things from their past and they don’t move past them.

They blame other people, other things for their mistakes.

They blame anything and everything except themselves. Or worse, they blame themselves and they don’t know that they can accept blame and move on. That they can accept their past mistakes and learn from them and write a new chapter for themselves.

Don’t let this be you.

Remember, you wrote your past and you can write your future.

So as you go through these questions, assess where you are in life.

Assess what you’ve done to get to where you are today.

Take a deep look into what you’ve done up until this point because if you want to change, then you must understand the past.

You must understand where you’ve been in order to get to where you want to go.

Your past successes, failures, and everything in between.

Understand that, accept that, and then you can move forward and achieve even bigger and better successes.

If you don’t understand this, then you stand to make the same mistakes and repeat your failures.

In order to develop your full potential, to be happy, to be content and fulfilled, you must get to know yourself… all the good stuff, and the bad stuff. Only then will you be able to make the changes you need to make in order to achieve your future successes.

So on to the questions…. Which I’ll share in my next post… just kidding.

Here they are.

First, ask yourself, what do you currently have that you’re grateful for?

Your home if you have one, your vehicle, cell phone, computer, clothes, the food you eat, friends, family, toys, gadgets, children, the air you breathe, the sights you see, the sounds you hear, everything.

Be grateful for everything you currently have and appreciate it. Realize that some people have it worse and while yes, some have it better, you are fully capable of achieving more for yourself. And it starts with being grateful for what you have.

Write it down.

Make a list. Keep writing. Write it all down.

The more grateful you are, the easier it will be for you to move forward and achieve more and greater successes.

Second, are you happy where you are today?

Are you truly happy. Not just comfortable.

Do you have everything you want or need?

Do you feel fulfilled, not just content?

Are you done searching?

Ask yourself if you can wake up and smile knowing that everything is good.

In addition, ask yourself if you’re happy doing what you’re currently doing. Does it excite you and invigorate you? Does it make you want to wake up each day and continue working? Does it give you a sense of pride?

Next, ask yourself, “Have I done enough?”

Is there something more you want to do? Is there something nagging at you – something that’s like an itch that you can’t scratch. Or is there something you know you should be doing and you’re not?

Remember when you were a kid?

If someone asked you what you wanted to do when you grew up, what would you have answered? Are you doing it? If not, why not? What else are you doing and is it really enough for you? Can you do more? Should you do more?

Which leads us to the next question, “what do you really want?”

And don’t just say, “a million dollars.”   Why do you want a million dollars? What are you going to do with it? How will that make you feel?

This is really one of the most important questions. This is your reason why.

The stronger the why, the greater your results.

Napoleon Hill says, “Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small amount of fire brings a small amount of heat.” So make it strong.

Answering this – or finding the answer to this will also help you answer what motivates you. What drives you and keeps you going? What makes you tick? What wakes you up in the morning and gets you out of bed?

Remember, it’s not just about physical change or mental change. It’s about something you really, truly, want. It’s about something that truly means something to you. It’s something extremely important to you – almost like air. You have to have it.

What is that for you?

See it, feel it, hear it, smell it. Visualize it. Imagine it.

The more specific it is, the better.

Once again, Napoleon Hill says, “Whatever your mind can conceive, you can achieve.”

Now ask yourself, what are you willing to give up in order to get what you want?

Wow!

Think about that.

What are you willing to sacrifice in order to get more?

And I’m not just talking about money or things or items you have.

It could be time, money, sleep. Whatever it is, what is it?

There’s a saying that says, “Do what others won’t do for 2 years so that you can do what others can’t do after that.

And no, I’m not talking about anything illegal. I’m talking ethically, responsibly, and legally.

Think about it.

Some people are willing to work their behinds off in order to get what they want.

Sometimes they have to sacrifice time with their families, dating, living in a fancy home or more in order to get their dreams.

How many stories have you heard about actors and models living at friend’s homes on couches before they make it big?

Heard the term starving artists? What did they have to give up in order to continue making their art?

What are you willing to give up now in order to get more later?

And speaking of later, keep your eyes open for my next message as this one has gone on for quite a while.

In my next message, I’ll continue talking about how to achieve greater successes and to really get what you want.

And I’m sure you have a lot to think about until then.

The best thing to do is write down all these questions and write down all the answers.

Be honest and open with yourself… be raw.

Remember, this is your life… and only you can change it.
