Have you ever written something and then remembered something afterwards and written a P.S.?
Well we all know that. It stands for Post Script or Post Scriptum in Latin.
And then you remember something else. So which one do you use?
P.P.S. or P.S.S.?
Well, P.P.S. stands for Post-Post Scriptum.
P.S.S. stands for Post Script Script or Post scriptum (letter) scriptum (message after letter).
Someone said that PSS also stands for “post scriptum secundum” for a second post script.
Urban Dictionary says to use PPS. Of course it also says PPS stands for Public Piss Syndrome where you are prone to losing your desire to urinate when someone else is in the room, so I don’t know how accurate that really is.
Still another person says to use P.S.S. because, “it sounded more like ‘psst’, the initial hissing sound when you want to whisper. And since we can’t whisper on mail, a PSS would suffice.”
And of course the delimma doesn’t stop there. Because once you decide on P.S.S. or P.P.S. and you remember something else, then what?!?!
Wikipedia says, “when additional points are made after the first postscript, abbreviations such as PPS (post-postscript) and PPPS (post-post-postscript) are used, though only PPS has somewhat common usage.”
Wikipedia, as you know, is just written by common folks like you or I though, so is it really P.P.P.S. for Post-Post-Post Script (ie an afterthought after the second afterthought after the first afterthought) or P.S.S.S. for Post-Scriptum-Scriptum-Scriptum?
Or how about P.P.S.S. Post-PostScript-Secundum?
It’s all so confusing!!! So confusing that someone else has some good advice… “why bother with PS or PPS just start again, it would be shorter in the
I guess the most important thing to remember though is to just get your point across.
