Are You Serious?!?

Summer’s over and the kids are back to school! For them, it’s time to get serious again. For most adults though, working is a yearlong task (except for that 1 or 2 week vacation). And because of this, often times, the working public is always serious!

There’s no time for just sitting around doing nothing! There are bills to pay; responsibilities; things to do! All work and no play makes (FILL IN THE BLANK) a dull person! O.k. so who did you fill in the blank with? Was it your own name? What have you been doing for fun lately?

I go to a lot of networking meetings where I’m meeting people all the time. One of the first things I ask them is what do they do. Instead of telling me that they read books, paint, volunteer, play music, etc, they always tell me what they do at work. And then when I ask them what do they do for fun, there’s an uncomfortable pause before the most common answer, “I don’t know.”

Now, to me, this is really just quite sad. To me, life’s too short not to be having fun all the time! Yes, yes, yes, yes. I know that there are times that you need to be serious only you can still be seriously fun! Or have a seriously fun time! And even better, if you enjoyed your work, you’d have fun all the time!

The great Jim Rohn, author and motivational speaker, once said, “I’ve never worked a day in my life!” By this he meant that he enjoys what he does so much that he doesn’t consider it work.

How about you? What are you doing? Do you enjoy what you’re doing? If not, is there anything you can do about it? Or an even better question would be, “what are you going to do about it if you’re not loving what you do?”

Regardless of what you decide to do

– if anything, remember that you can have fun in just about everything that you do. And it’s important to take the time out to have fun. It’s been proven that happy people are much healthier and live longer than unhappy people.

So start having fun and quit being so serious.
